La novela In the Heat of the Night (En el calor de la noche) de John Ball publicada en 1965 ha sido adaptada tanto a la gran pantalla, en 1967 de la mano de Norman Jewison (Jesucristo Superstar), como en la pequeña, creada en 1988 por James Lee Barrett. En esta ocasión, será Tate Taylor (The Help) quien adapte esta reconocida obra sobre el racismo.
